I'm confused why this movie has terrible ratings, I thought it was great! Kind of reminds me of Kid Detective.
One of those movies critics were wrong about. I am sure the books are better though.
Watched this one mainly as a fan of Anton Yelchin and was not disappointed in his performance. Unfortunately, I was a bit less impressed with the love interest character. Probably was a combination of writing/acting, but most of her dialogue just didn't land for me. It wasn't movie ruining, but it did pull me out of some scenes. Luckily, the story held my interest with a rapid pace, plenty of fun beats, and even some nice supernatural detective twists and turns. I was also pleasantly surprised to find that the "bodach" special effects held up pretty well for an eight year old movie shot on a modest budget. All in all, a worthwhile watch that definitely deserved better from critics and the box office. Also, more proof that Anton was a star. Rest in peace.
I love the characters and the chemistry among the actors. It very much feels like a small town where people know everyone. Willem Dafoe is always amazing. Anton Yelchin is absolutely fantastic. Addison Timlin has great dialogue and fantastic chemistry with Anton. Everyone else in the cast is great too. This is a rare gem where everything just fits.
From Stephen Sommers comes the supernatural action film Odd Thomas. Based on a Dean Koontz novel, a short-order cook named Odd, who has the ability to see the dead and other supernatural creatures, notices a built up of bodachs, who feed off of death and destruction, and realizes that something catastrophic is about to happen. Starring Anton Yelchin, Addison Timlin, and Willem Dafoe, and the cast is fairly decent; Yelchin in particular is quite good at delivering the satirical comedy along with the action. But the storytelling is a little weak, as there’s a lot of inorganic exposition that breaks up the flow of the film. While it doesn’t entirely work, Odd Thomas is an entertaining and fun adventure.
