Yeah, I don't care if this is campy and there's a lot of poorly executed chase scenes. I don't care if the monsters look like dudes in painted scuba suits. I don't care if the motivations of the characters are poorly explained, if explained at all. Adrienne Barbeau kicks all kinds of bad guy butt in this and the kid that plays the teenage boy ("Jude") is the best thing about the movie.
Frankenstein for the poor with cartoonish characters and guys in rubber costumes as monsters. The one things that make it interesting is its simplicity, imperfections and naivety. What pushes it over the to for me is the magical science that is more like a fairytale than the actual science it presents to represent. For fans, as it still is a Wes Craven.
From writer/director Wes Craven comes the bizarre and macabre superhero adventure _Swamp Thing_. Adapted from the DC comic series, the story follows a scientist named Dr. Alec Holland who’s transformed into a plant creature and attempts to stop the formula that caused his accident from falling into the hands of a nefarious businessman. Starring Louis Jourdan, Adrienne Barbeau, and Ray Wise, the cast isn’t too bad; though Barbeau is dead weight and has no chemistry with her co-stars. However, the real problem is with the script, which is hard to follow and doesn’t make a lot of sense. Also, the creature costumes (other than Swamp Thing) are incredibly cheesy. A poorly made film, _Swamp Thing_ is a dull and boring trek through the bayou.
It felt like a seventies movie throughout, and in this case, that was not a good thing. Adrienne Barbeau is quite the badass in this movie, unfortunately that couldn’t save it. Just bad and drab once the rubber suit shows up.
Well, it's not a masterpiece of cinematography, but the silicone costumes were pretty cool. ;)
