This is why I wanted to go back in time and (try to) watch every single UFC card ever aired: to see the evolution and development of what I’ve been enjoying for - at best - only a couple of years so far. Watching the “rules of the octagon” begin to slowly take shape and now, with this card, seeing a true “scoring system” (instead of the _”golly gee whillikers, who did you like best in that match?”_ system employed up ’til now) and the introduction of “rounds” (as opposed to just having two guys slug it out until both of them are completely gassed, which usually results in a snoozefest that everyone hopes will just hurry up and end) along with other aspects in the ongoing maturation of the modern-day UFC is like watching history…something that I’ve always enjoyed. Now if they could just hire a professional audio engineer who knew how to correctly mic these matches… And about the card itself: There were some decent matches here but overall, man these guys seem like a bunch of pantywaist wusses compared to the UFC fighters of today. These guys are throwing in the towel after a couple punches, a trick knee, a busted nose, etc etc and today’s UFC fighters almost have to be dragged out of the octagon before they’ll stop. I understand the “safety of the fighters comes first” but I’m talking about these wussies like Marco “King of the Streets” Huas who claimed to have a twisted knee (TRANSLATION: _”He didn’t give up during the first round so I don’t want to fight anymore.”_ ) or that fat tub of jello, Andre Roberts, who ran crying to his corner in UFC 19 just because he got his nose broken. Man up, you bunch of spineless crybabies; you wanna call yourself a “fighter” and you can’t even fight a little adversity. Wow, y’all suck. And in other news, Jeff Blatnik still sucks and was only given the “esteemed title of UFC Commissioner” because he was a gold medal wrestler. Olympic gold medalist or not, he still sucks as an analyst of UFC matches because he’s never been in there; he only knew how to wrestle so the only “analysis” he wants to focus on was the tiny bit of wrestling he recognizes, i.e. _“in the guard”_ or _“Great double-leg takedown!”_ Blah blah blah… Glad the UFC now has some voices of actual experience that can call the action from a fighter’s perspective.
