A raw, bold, dark view of the modern-day sex slave market. This is a movie that Hollywood and the hypocritical #metoo movement never would have the balls to make. A revenge film that makes both volumes of Kill Bill look like a High School Christmas Pageant. It includes hardcore adult scenes, so you should be aware of them before looking to educate the kiddies on the hard behind-the-scenes life this movie portrays. _Thriller_ is a slow burn with a very satisfying ending.
This would be a tough sit for many viewers, especially today, but it's a raw and powerful rape/revenge flick. Yes it's a schlocky Grindhouse movie. Yes it exploits. Yes it has sequences of hardcore pornography. But let none of that scare you away, it's visceral character study of a girl pushed too far, whose strength and determination pay off in a bloody, satisfying climax.
I think I can be quite glad that I saw the edited version. From what I’ve heard, the uncut versions are basically half-porn, and some scenes are apparently even from other films (I know this was the premise of the challenge, but sometimes less is fine). Other than that, it’s a typical revenge flick, but probably one of the earliest. I liked how the story developed and the intensity with which Frigga deals with her abusers. However, the soundtrack was a bit over the top at times, with some really strange sounds being used, but I guess that was meant to emphasize the overall sense of dread. The slow-motion kill scenes were occasionally nice, but after a while, it became a bit much. But since the film is quite old, that kind of thing was viewed differently back then. In any case, Frigga is definitely an iconic character with her eyepatch and muteness. The movie itself was okay, but for me, it hasn’t aged as well as some other films.
A must watch! sadism? borderline probably
Cruel?!!? Yeah... I would say so... What makes this one both hard to watch and so bloody intriguing, is not necessarily because of WHAT is portrayed, but HOW it is portrayed, The grainy film stock, the sometimes first person filming, the slow motion violence, the music... Everything... It looks and feels cruel! Thriller is one of a kind, and should be seen by any fan of genre film, but stick to the version without the bodydouble hardcore sex scenes inserted. They give absolutely nothing to this film, and can be safely skipped.
