It's based on the true history and everyone should know if they respect the history. And the movie didn't shows the real degree of tragedy, even it's enough shocked.
Based on a true story and it doesn't shy away from depicting the devastation that the Japanese brought upon Nanjing. Very sad & heavy on the war crimes. The japanese in this movie are depicted worse than nazis are depicted in other forms of media, which isn't shocking because they did massacre 300k civilians in 6 weeks. For example in one scene,
a japanese solider takes a crying baby and spikes it against the ground and shoot its in the head in front of an entire crowd of people
. You can definitely feel the humiliation, hate, resentment, and national pride in this movie
six point seven out of ten
Wow. This movie is very impressive in many ways than one. Outside of the true events that shatter a nation, and the reality of what happen in Nanjing and across other provinces. The movie was so well produce and acted, every single frame of it was a very palpable moment thanks to how the embodiment of these characters were portray. There could be so many scenes that I could mention that really captivate me in regards of how well the acting was, but one in particular stood out to me.Is the role of Gao Ye, talking to Eric Wang in the room when he arrives to pick her up. That conversation embodied so much. Truly a great film no doubt, and more so above all because the acting is top-notch. You can have all the money behind a production but if you have a stale actors who feelings are not lived in, the movie falls flat. But not here, this was outstanding. War has been the most unnecessary thing the world has ever witness. From every corner of the world from whomever there is always bad people and innocents that pay the price. There is no innocent when it comes to war, if we go and study all the awful things every country has done to one another, the real sad story is those who have pay the price.
An important piece of cinema, deliberately hard to watch.
