Helen Mirren spielt in diesem Regiedebüt von Kate Winslet eine kranke, aber schlagfertige Mutter, die ihren Abgang auf ganz eigene Art orchestriert.

A restrained British ensemble drama set at Christmas, Goodbye June thrives on grounded performances, raw sibling dynamics, and emotional honesty. While its drifting, low-key structure can feel uneventful, strong acting, particularly from Helen Mirren and Kate Winslet, carries the film. Its predictably sad conclusion is softened by warmth and seasonal reflection, making it a quietly affecting portrait of family, loss, and life’s uneven rhythms.

What a great casting ! I liked the plot, the tension, the family ties and the natural pace. But I did not find it amazing nor memorable.
This is a very heart-warming, unrushed, touching film that deals with the messiness of families, the inevitability of mortality and navigating the spaces we share with the people we love and don't always like. The movie is helped by an experienced ensemble who are comfortable within subtle, restrained performance and sustains an intimacy and sweetness without major dramatic plot points. It's not a film to watch if your are scrolling or second-screening. Also, I liked reading that this was written by Kate Winslet's son, directed by Kate and based on some of their own family experiences. A passion project in which the feels are genuine.
Is this movie going to set the world on fire? No, of course not. But it actually has a lot going for it. First and foremost, the acting. There are several of my favorites in this film and they were all outstanding. Sometimes a movie moves you, and that's enough. follow me at https://IHATEBadMovies.com or facebook IHATEBadMovies
