I watched this for the first time today (2025). It was so silly and goofy. Young Noah Wiley was adorable! And who doesn’t love Bob Newhart?! I woulda liked it more if I watched it in its heyday. But this was a fun rainy Sunday afternoon movie. It was super far fetched in every way. But we need that sometimes, don’t we? My husband hated it. He has a low threshold for “stupid” movies. So if you’re a grumpy old fuddy duddy like him, move along. But if you’re looking for something goofy you don’t have to think much about - feel free to throw this movie on.

Somehow this movie makes Legends of the Hidden Temple seem like it had good acting and special effects. The 90s kids TV show, not the Isabella Merced movie. I do like the henchman who was in the exact same role in the much better National Treasure the same year.

I know these are cheesy B-movies but they are still a fun rainy day watch, which is how I think I initially found them. But I do enjoy this world and especially the series, The Librarians (https://trakt.tv/shows/the-librarians-2014), that spun off from the movies and is a blast and a half. However, the new 2025 series, The Librarians: The Next Chapter (https://trakt.tv/shows/the-librarians-the-next-chapter), leaves much to be desired and only made it 1 episode. Returned to the movies to see if they were as bad as the new series to try to give that some grace but there's just something missing and the team doesn't seem as fun as the original series' trio.

low-budget and cheesy but you know, it has its charms.
