LIVE! This makes me want to plan my next trip and just enjoy life. You never know what will happen and its not worth waiting.
Absolutely devastating and joyful. 2025 (98th) Academy Award nominations: Best Documentary Feature
Stories that show seriously ill people nearing death are always difficult to watch. In "Come See Me in the Good Light," poet Andrea Gibson's ultimately lost battle with cancer plays a major role, but the film is fundamentally more interested in Gibson as a person and their life and work than in being overly emotionally manipulative. Even though I'm not particularly into poetry slams myself, Gibson's perspective on life impressed me. The documentary is really heavy-going in places, but at the same time it's also life-affirming, which makes for an effective contrast. In any case, it quickly becomes clear in the documentary that Gibson was a fascinating and creative personality. And this film certainly creates a worthy memorial to that person.
An incredibly well-crafted, touching tribute to an undeniable talent. Contains at least two dozen thoughts or expressions that I felt immediate connection with. Just beautiful.
