Haven't watched this in sooo long, it's a nice feel good movie, really cheesy, some catchy songs, but just a bit of fun!
"Totally blingalicious". I rewatch this every year even though I'm haunted by the scene where everyone gets off the bus and they have an instrumental cringe-fest.
I'm 14 years old, it's 2008, and I'm glued to the television watching Disney Channel. That was the ideal context to watch Camp Rock, and I think nostalgia does 80% of the work here. The story is the most predictable thing in the world, normal girl, famous and selfish singer, secret that gets discovered, drama, reconciliation, final duet. You could write the script with your eyes closed. But the songs... the damn songs get stuck in your head forever. I sang "This is me" in the shower for months.
The drama of Mitchie lying about who her mother is and then getting humiliated in front of everyone is very typical Disney Channel, but it works. And the moment when Shane recognizes her by her voice at the Final Jam is maximum level cheesy but I don't care, I smiled like an idiot.
The Jonas Brothers were at the peak of their fame and you can tell this was a product designed to squeeze the phenomenon dry. Demi Lovato sings way better than she acts, but hey, she was just a kid. I'm not going to defend it as a good movie because it isn't. But it brings back memories of a simpler time, and sometimes that's worth more than any serious analysis.
Yes yes I just watched this for the first time and I'm the biggest Disney fan ever And this I'll say I expected way better songs the last one was kinda enjoyable and the this is real this is me song is cute But idk I didn't connect really with any of the characters and Caitlyn in my opinion wasn't a good friend until like the last minutes Kevins character was hilarious But the resolution was tooooo basic The fashion choices in that time were crazy hahaha
