Super wholesome, and easy to follow for the casual yet fond watcher. Way better than the previous one, and a great ending (or grand finale, it really is) for the story as a whole. Laughed throughout, shed some tears (or rather bawled my eyes out), it was amazing.
It was a great finale but the selfish part of me still wishes it wasn't over. I'm so invested in these characters and enjoyed seeing them all on screen again.
A satisfying finale that is tinged with knowing this is goodbye. While the arrival of Noel Coward brings a lot of levity, an American also arrives who is annoying. Granny's absence is felt. Daisy's story advances in a way that sort of feels parallel to Mary's, which brings the Downton drama full circle to the question that was present from the start: who becomes the inheritor/bridge that will both honor tradition while also embracing the frightening new way of the lessened influence of the nobility/gentry? It's lovely to see the familiar faces for one last time to wrap things up, and we get a glimpse of those left behind as well.
Beautiful costume work particularly the evening wear.
"Long live Downton Abbey" Truly.
