I thought it was going to be a throw away experience. Something that I would say in the backyard to pay attention to off and on. I really enjoyed watching the remodeling process, in a way that was refreshing from any of the drama or hokiness of reality TV shows.
I'm surprised just how much I enjoyed this. Casa Bonita was lost on me, being an Australian - heck, I didn't even remember the South Park episode until they showed some clips. This place, Casa Bonita, is unlike anything I've ever seen. And you almost have to ask, in this modern world, was it worth it. But the journey is so interesting, as they peel back they wonders of the different areas of the Casa Bonita restaurant, and the horrors of the mismanagement and deterioration.
I haven’t been a fan of South Park or Trey Parker and Matt Stone for many years and I think only reason why I kept watching South Park until season 14 was because at that point it was just a show I watched out of habit. I really should have stopped watching it long before that, though. I always wondered what the real Casa Bonita restaurant was like after seeing the South Park episode featuring it and even though I’m not into South Park or Matt and Trey anymore this documentary about them buying Casa Bonita and spending a ridiculous amount of money to restore it was pretty entertaining. Seeing the decrepit state Casa Bonita was in by the time it was closed down during the COVID pandemic and purchased by Matt and Trey was wild. It was also pretty funny to see how Trey’s childhood dream of owning Casa Bonita starts to become his nightmare. I liked seeing how passionate everyone working on restoring the restaurant, people from Lakewood, CO and even people from outside of CO were about such a kitschy restaurant returning and I kinda wanna go there someday haha!
