Like an emergency parachute: just because it works and avoids a potential disaster doesn't make it a good trip. Camille Lou's energy carries the film as far as it can, but sometimes the burden of the story is too heavy to bear. Noémie Saglio does a fine job writing and directing around the aberrant sexism of the source material (a 1970s Belgian comic series), but what she replaces the story with doesn't really fly.
