[CPH:DOX '24] In his semi-autobiographical book Wilfred Black told the story of his life mixing it with indigenous astronomy. Part of the consistency of the film occurs in the conversations with the protagonist as he drives along the roads, in his continuous journeys between communities, until concluding in the celebration of a Sun Dance ceremony, a four-day meeting to pray and heal that It cannot be filmed. The film mixes the documentary story with fictional scenes that recreate his childhood and youth. The mix between these fictional scenes, with 16 mm cinematography by Justin Black, archival images and the personal experience of Wilfred Buck make up a set that is almost poetic, in which fiction is mixed with reality and mythological stories. The film transmits history and knowledge using different types of narration, in a whole that feels solid and is sustained by the survival of indigenous traditions that are transmitted through the elders to new generations that seems to have awakened a need to connect with their own story told by themselves.
