Uhh, I'm guessing this is more for the "art film" crowd...? I have no idea what this story was about, at all. At least it was short, that was nice.

I might rewatch this with headphones because the ordinary noises become characters in this movie, where the sounds of knives on cutting boards, spatulas, sizzling pans, and the crunch of cans are given clarity, prominence, and crispness. These domestic, cooking-school sounds become uncanny; they don’t feel comforting or neutral. They press in on both character and audience. There is an existential dread in everyday sounds.

Existential dread Kiyoshi Kurosawa's is best Kiyoshi Kurosawa. Some parts are a bit lacking but it is made up by the whole.

An experience of reflection and impact. The cinematography is extremely sharp, with long scenes alternating between different spaces. The performances have much more expression than words, creating scenes that are extremely uncomfortable and even disturbing. The story is subjective, very interpretive, uses sound in different ways, as well as the robotic routine that generates social discouragement and frustration, stimulating feelings that range from indifference to extreme hatred.

Let's hope I never hear a chime.
