Edit: After watching this again on my OLED display in the comfort of my home, I enjoyed this much more.
_Nearly three years after the end of **Chainsaw Man** Season 1, **Denji** is back but this time on the big screen with the long awaited adaptation of the **Reze** arc._ It’s important to note that just a few days before the film’s theatrical release, they launched **Chainsaw Man – The Compilation**. This is a two part recap film that compiles the first season and includes new short content, all to prepare audiences for the release of **_Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc_**. Not only was this compilation fantastic but it also naturally suggests that **_Chainsaw Man_** might actually be better suited to feature length films rather than seasonal anime. Considering the quality presented in this new movie and the absurd profits it generated (over **$174 million** globally in just a few weeks for a total production cost of **$4.1 million**), I think everyone would agree that seeing **Denji’s** adventures continue directly in a feature length format would be a win for everyone because we are forced to admit that there’s something inherently cinematic about **_Chainsaw Man_**. This idea is even more reinforced here because **_Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc_** is a brilliant film. It has everything : extraordinary animation, insane artwork, explosive fight scenes, and an outstanding score by **Kensuke Ushio** which might be one of the best of recent years. But above all it’s a movie made for the cinema, there are several absolutely breathtaking shots and multiple moments where the emotional aspects of the movie just works perfectly, the whole thing makes you appreciate and deeply respect the work produced by **MAPPA**. Every single scene involving **Denji** and **Reze** but also the ones that is concerning them individually are perfectly brought to life. We might easily think that the film focuses on this new romance simply because it’s so well executed but in reality what comes through even more is how nicely the panels of **Tatsuki Fujimoto’s** are adapted. Here we witness **Denji's** development and awakening, for example when he uses a shark demon as a mount controlled by a man transformed into a living chainsaw using his chains to fight, but beyond the fights **Denji** discovers new feelings, learns how to respond to them, and gradually realizes that his emotions are being manipulated. The film could be divided into two distinct parts : the first has a clear “slice of life” perspective, which for some may feel slow or even boring, while the second part is completely action oriented. The film is pretty linear which can be a problem for some people because although spectacular overall, the action sequences can sometimes feel a bit chaotic and the slice of life part can be slow and boring for some people. From my point of view these two aspects are perfectly adapted, and the film as a whole takes on a completely different level, a wonderful dimension, because designed as a feature length film. **_Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc_** ranks among the best films of 2025, and could easily be considered the top animated film of the year, it’s a faithful adaptation that shines in its direction and cinematic execution. **BANGER !** **8/10.**
Really liked the ending, made it feel complete
