"You'd say that about Guantanamo if you thought they had an opening for me" June Squibb is a national treasure and a good first feature directing for Scarlett J. Erin and Chiwetel are both excellent, too.
June Squibb is a treasure! I seriously think she should be like Mr. Bean/Ernest and just make a series of movies about adventures. Between this and Thelma, she is amazing. It blows my mind that she's acting at 96. As far as the movie, Rita Zohar blew me away with the final scene. Chiwetel Ejiofor's monologue had some interesting commentary on grief, that I found noteworthy.
A movie about old age and managing grief about the loss of a loved one. Generally sensitive and excellently played by June Squibb. Personal note: I though did not like too much that they try a bit too hard to grab sympathy for the Jewish culture and Jews in general. Those parts, while it is certainly still important to point out the horrors of the Holocaust as well as to show that not all Jews are like some war mongers in Israel, feel a lot like trying to grab sympathy in the light of the doubtful action of Israel in Gaza. A more general and more subtile handling of this subject would have been better for the movie. There were also many non-jewish people who died innocently in WW2 and in the holocaust. Anyway, it is still a good movie that can help people handling grief and see that they are not alone.
Saw this at a special event showing in San Antonio tonight. Even though the movie isn't my normal type I found it interesting. It is definitely a slow burner with a touching story about aging, death, family and friendships
