*Cuerpo Escombro* is a hilarious Spanish comedy that feels like a gym membership gone wrong. Following an underdog’s clumsy attempt to transform their life—and body—it’s packed with awkward workouts, questionable advice, and a steady stream of laughable failures. With a sharp sense of humor and a big heart, it’s a reminder that self-improvement is more about the journey (and the laughs) than the six-pack.
Cuerpo escombro pleasantly surprised me! The plot, although it may sound a bit controversial on paper, is developed with an intelligent humor that avoids falling into mockery and, on the contrary, manages to transmit empathy and reflection. Dani Rovira is in his element; as Javi, he mixes clumsiness and charisma in a balance that makes you connect with him even though he is doing something as questionable as faking a disability. And Ernesto Sevilla as Fermín… what a way to mess things up! His ideas are absurd, but they give a very funny touch to the main conflict. What I liked most was how the film combines humor with more serious moments, especially when Javi begins to fall in love with his boss and the lies start to pile up. Although the premise may generate doubts, in the end it feels like one of those comedies that makes you smile and, at the same time, makes you think about how difficult it is sometimes to be honest with yourself. I give it an 8/10 because I found it fresh and well-written, although some scenes drag on longer than necessary and the ending is somewhat predictable. However, if you want to have a good time and leave the cinema in a good mood, it's a safe bet!
