Black Phone 2 is a juvenile horror film with writing so poor it should make even the 9th graders shake their heads. The Grabber isn't a bad concept, even when he's stealing Freddy Krueger's shtick, but there are countless ways this film could have been improved. At times, it felt as though the filmmakers just didn't care enough.
It’s not just that ”I didn’t like it as much as I wanted, “ but more like “that it’s two hours of my life I will never get back.” Which makes me sad because I thought the first Black Phone was very good.
Honestly surprised by the pretty positive reviews here I felt the script was laughable at times and just sounded extremely unnatural, and the whole dream world was just odd to me. It wants to be nightmare on elm Street and the conjuring while staying somewhat original
It wasn't needed, but it was a pretty good follow up.
Black Phone 2 is a blended smoothie of a little bit of The Shining, a lot of Nightmare on Elm Street, and a little bit of Friday the 13th that comes out pretty chalky. The dark winter setting is only a partial Mask to the bad fake snow and frozen lake sound stage. Worst tasting is the plot reveal that forces a clumsy connection to the original film. I still dig the universe and characters, but this film doesn’t work
