A convoluted thriller with mind games being played between a killer and children trying to blackmail him. I guess it's trying to be shocking with the end twists that shows [spoiler]Asahi as the real killer[/spoiler] but it's a bit obvious very early. Maybe there is too much emphasis on Natsuki's fate to be a killer, and on Hiroshi being presented as a delinquent, though only on his first scene, he's basically useless and does nothing for the whole rest of the movie. I'd say also that literally showing that Noboru only got [spoiler]a silver medal with Asahi getting a gold one[/spoiler] was a bit too much on the nose. But watching the story go is nice and I like the "everything was part of the plan" vibe, specially as everything that appear to be a mistake finds an explanation. Though it's seems a bit big for one. It was really stupid to [spoiler]reveal his identity while talking of the maths medal[/spoiler] but it turns out it was planned out since he [spoiler]gave his name to the cop[/spoiler] on purpose right after. Sure, he knew the [spoiler]cop was here, since he saw him outside[/spoiler], but that was only after he got to the place. [spoiler]Did he expect the cop to be there. Did he improvise that on the spot when he saw him outside ?[/spoiler] Got to admit that [spoiler]the diary being a fake alibi from the beginning[/spoiler] was really good. And the fact that [spoiler]Natsuki caught it and accepted it[/spoiler] even better. Didn't really need the [spoiler]morale of him being caught[/spoiler] at the end. One flaw though, Asahi says that [spoiler]he killed Aki because he liked her and she didn't like him back[/spoiler], however that's really not in line with the character. I mean, we get this whole storyline and scenes with Natsuki to [spoiler]make him appear normal[/spoiler] and counterbalance the rest, the girl [spoiler]literally kills for him while it's her worst nightmare to become a killer like her father[/spoiler], and yet [spoiler]he doesn't hesitate a second to kill her, well, let her die, but it's part of the plan to frame her and have her die from the beginning[/spoiler]. He's also [spoiler]ready to kill his mother on the spot[/spoiler]. There is just no way that he would [spoiler]"like Aki", specially not to the point of revealing it to her[/spoiler].
