At Wrestlemania (the original) I was a Hulk Hogan fan. By the time Royal Rumble 1992 rolled around, I was far less of a fan and much more aware of how self-centered and spoiled Hogan really was: EVERY Wrestlemania had to feature Hogan as the "Main Event", no matter what his standing was in the company at that time. Here in the Royal Rumble, Sid Justice (aka Sid Vicious in NWA/WCW) should have won the title but was "eliminated" when the officials, Jack Tunney, and everyone else on the WWF Board of Directors turned a blind eye at an already-eliminated Hogan PULLING Sid over the top rope from OUTSIDE the ring. Yes, I know it's all scripted...but in this case, whomever wrote the script was just lazy: that was far too obvious to overlook. Hogan had already been "fairly" eliminated when Sid Justice flipped him over the top rope, so now, in a petulant fit of jealousy, he tugs on Sid while Ric Flair valiantly heaves Justice from behind, and between the two of them, they get Sid Justice over the top rope, thereby ending the Rumble and declaring Ric Flair some kind of "undisputed champion." (1) Sid Justice was never actually eliminated so (2) Ric Flair never actually WON the Royal Rumble. The WWF just got lazy and didn't want to write anything that was more feasible to the humanoids. It is about this time that I start to disengage from the WWF because of their undying loyalty to Hogan, who's proving to (a much younger) me that he's only interested in what's in it for Hogan, and has absolutely no interest in putting anyone else over. Of course, years later we now ALL know the truth about Hogan so it really should come as no surprise. The surprise was the lack of professionalism on the part of Vince McMahon and the rest of the WWF/WWE for allowing such a lousy story to be pushed on their fans. There was nothing about this card - especially the Royal Rumble part - that was worth sitting through.
