In einem Dorf in Südkorea des Jahres 1986 treibt ein Frauenmörder sein Unwesen. Zwei Polizisten konnten zwar durch etliche Foltermethoden Geständnisse aus verschiedenen Verdächtigen herauslocken, aber der Richtige war bisher nicht dabei. Da kommt ein gewitzter Polizist aus Seoul den beiden zur Hilfe.

Beautiful scenery, great music and good acting. I have seen it twice now and it was just as good as I remembered it. Some really funny moments and a few thrills and chilling moments. But the way the movie is crafted and cut is just beautiful. Love the ending immensely, and since it's based on a true story - you can't really complain about it.
An excellent movie that fans of David Fincher's Zodiac will love.
Authoritarianism + anti-intellectualism. Name a more iconic duo. This is a political satire at heart, disguised as a crime thriller. It's Bong Joon-ho's way of shining a light on the rampant police brutality and socioeconomic inequality under the several dictatorships that the people of South Korea had to endure from 1961-1988. I'm deducting a couple of points because the third act was a bit messy, even though [spoiler]detective Seo's character development was pivotal in showing how toxic corruption is[/spoiler].
I feel like I watched a completely different movie than all the other reviewers because it went straight into my top 5 worst movies.
