...this movie felt like a fanfiction idea written by an incel who managed to skim through the first 30 or so chapters of orv manhwa, all the while drunk. The director should've just taken his own film with his own characters and said it was inspired by orv... then this whole mess could've been avoided
Pure entertainment from start to finish. Really enjoyed this one. If you like games, anime, isekai, litrpg books and such (as I do!) you will love this. Reminded me a lot of As the Gods Will (2014) which is in a very similar style. Now, when do we get a part 2?
I never read the web too so my review is based off the movie itself. this movie would of been a great straight to streaming movie. I enjoyed it but wouldn't watch it again
With the success of Squid Game and Solo Leveling, Omniscient Reader is trying to combined and harvest their success. This film had all the deadly ganes challenges of Squid Game and the exponential growth of main character's heroism. Unfortunately, the decision to make it as a film weakened auch exploitation and ended up with more survival games with RPG aspects film compared to superhero film. With too much story development packed into a single full feature film, the story became imbalanced as if there were parts of the story left untold. Consciously or unconsciously, the audience will feel it and could give the best appreciation due to the overwhelming untold stories. It's a box office hit, clearly, but it would not reach iconic status. It's entertaining enough to watch, but don't expect to see a masterpiece film.
