This movie is very subdued, long lingering shots of character faces and nature, minimal cinematography, mainly only dialogue with minimalistic plot. The movie only works because of Lily Collias who is excellent and able to communicate effectively with her facial expressions. The two male actors are good as well, but she's the driving force behind the movie. Initially, I wanted to write this movie off for being a bunch of nothingness that felt overly boring. However, I do think the movie was able to achieve peeling back the layers of some of these character dynamics, really highlighting the way Lily Collias' Sam is treated by the two men, and the unspoken frustration she carries throughout this trip as it builds up. In that sense, I do think the movie has something to say that it is able to successfully convey, again largely due to the acting. Unfortunately, it still feels hard to watch because there isn't often a lot of engaging content on screen, and I feel like the same themes could have been packaged in a sleeker style or more compelling plot.
A transgressive remark that changes the dynamics and atmosphere is not the first and only thing that happens. From the outset, the film is full of inappropriate remarks, looks and awkward moments. Well done!
This is a rather quiet movie about the dynamics of relationships. Some of it is spoken, but much of it isn't. There is a lot in this movie, if you're willing to do a little work. I should note that the movie works largely because of the talent of the lead. When I first saw Jennifer Lawrence in Winter's Bone, I knew immediately that she had a bright future. I felt the same way after watching this movie. Also, I don't know that everyone got the dilemma that was presented in the final scenes. The young lady had a decision to make about what had happened the night before, and I think her decision really changed the feel of the movie. follow me at https://IHATEBadMovies.com or facebook IHATEBadMovies
Whole time I thought the friend was Ray Liotta! Great little hiking film for genZ girls - funny, but in a you were born in 04 funny. Meaning its the “Great Outdoors” but mumblecore queer, and John Candy is a Ray Liotta lookalike and the main character is buttoned up cottage core social media generation lesbian. Its highly tolerable but might make men over 40 cringe as thats who seems to be the “antagonist” - if I was forced to squeeze one out of the plot. It’s less confrontational as more iphone shot hiking long essay. Like the other commenter said its all subdued. You can make of the turning point in act 3 (a thing that is said not an action) whatever you want. I’d watch it again for the hiking long form vibes.
