Smart, funny and has aged really well over 40 years. Jim Henson's legacy still rings high today.
Jim Henson’s Muppets hit the big time in The Muppet Movie. In their first feature film the Muppets retell the story of how Kermit the Frog set off for Hollywood and found a group of friends who shared his dream of stardom. Like the television show, the film is full of witty, campy humor, and features a number of celebrity cameos from the likes of Steve Martin, Mel Brooks, Bob Hope, Richard Pryor, Orson Welles, and many more. Additionally, the musicals are immensely fun and entertaining, delivering such classics as “The Rainbow Connection” and “Can You Picture That.” Fun for all ages, The Muppet Movie is a wonderful family film.
The Muppets have been with me for literally as long as I can remember. They are absolutely timeless. Everytime I watch them, and I have watched everything multiple times, I am having a lot of fun. They are a great means of escapism from your daily problems.
[5.75/10] I’m sure I saw bits and pieces of this movie as a kid, but I never watched it all the way through. It had been on my watchlist for a while, so I finally gave it a try! I’ve always loved the Muppets in theory. Was a fan of the _Muppet Babies_ animated series and all of the Muppet appearances on on _Sesame Street_, but I could never fully get into **The Muppets** on their own. Now that I’ve finally seen this movie, I can understand why—the Muppets weren’t necessarily made for kids! Unlike the _Sesame Street_ Muppets, the original Muppets have a more adult perspective and sense of humor. I love Jim Henson’s work, and this movie had its charming moments, but overall, I did not love it. Some jokes felt outdated, and the story didn’t quite pull me in. Still, the characters are undeniably lovable, and there’s a sense of nostalgia even for someone who didn’t grow up watching the Muppets regularly. For those reasons alone, I’ll be happy to watch more of their films even though I expect to have similar opinions on them. (Though I previously enjoyed _A Christmas Carol_!) I actually wouldn't mind seeing some fresh/new Muppet stories, especially if they can recapture the best of their ‘70s and ‘80s vibe in a fresh way, with adults as the target audience.
