On paper, Baby Girl looked promising. With the director of Garudan joining hands with the acclaimed writer duo of Traffic and Mumbai Police, expectations were naturally high. Unfortunately, what unfolds on screen is a deeply underwhelming and unfocused film. The movie relies heavily on an overload of emotional scenes, stitched together without a solid narrative backbone. Instead of organic storytelling, the makers seem determined to push the audience into an emotional spiral, mistaking intensity for depth. The result is a screenplay that feels weak both in concept and execution. Nivin Pauly, usually a dependable performer, appears restrained by the material. His performance feels like a step down from Sarvam Maya, not due to lack of effort but because the writing gives him very little to work with. Overall, Baby Girl is a classic case of strong names failing to translate into strong cinema. What could have been a compelling emotional drama ends up as a sub-par experience. Another week passes, and Mollywood delivers yet another disappointment.
