Vettaiyan is a practical and thoughtful film that highlights how education is being treated as a business. It also shows how people in power are allowing this to happen. The movie can be seen as a reflection of real-life issues, like the recent Kolkata rape case, where there was a huge public outcry demanding the death penalty for the culprit. However, the film suggests that capital punishment isn't the real solution. The key is to address the root causes of such crimes and stop them from happening in the first place. Focusing too much on the death penalty can distract people from asking the important questions and finding long-term solutions. This kind of message, which challenges the way society thinks, is probably why Vettaiyan didn’t get as much attention as films like Jailer. It’s a harder truth to face, but it’s a message we really need to hear.

A Star-Studded Thriller with a Social Conscience : This movie is about Athiyan, the Superintendent of Police, who investigates a rape case and encounters the culprit. Later, the Human Rights Commission proved that the guy encountered was innocent. The movie covers how Athiyan resolves his mistake by finding the real culprit and the real reason for the murder. The movie has a good storyline to establish why the shoot-at-sight is wrong, what the politics behind it and how biased police and the system are against criminals of different economic statuses. The first half of the movie is filled with Athiyan's instant justice with shoot-at-sight, the rape case of a teacher, how the police handled it, how Athiyan got blinded by emotions and the conclusion of an improper investigation. The second half is filled with Athiyan taking over the rape case himself and investigating to find the real culprit, the real reason for the rape and murder, and how the victim and the guy encountered wrongly related. The climax was written conveniently. The story has great potential to be a great film, but the director, Gnanavel, might have got into a dilemma in managing a huge cast that brings huge expectations among their fans and pressure to give this movie a huge blockbuster to uplift the track record of Rajinikanth. The writing was compromised for Superstar Rajinikanth to give him mass, commercial buildup to his character to satisfy his fans. Huge casting has also been done for the commercial success of the movie despite their need to tell the story. If Gnanavel had enough time and was allowed to do this movie without any compromise, then he would have done a better film than his previous one (Jai Bhim 2021). Rajinikanth did a great job selecting this script and his presence and style were well incorporated into his role Athiyan. It might have been good if he had allowed the director to do his own thing without any compromise. Amitabh Bachchan holds command as Justice Sathya, representative of the Human Rights Commission, his role plays a vital role in the story and helps Athiyan to see the big picture in the case. Fahad Faasil plays the role of an ex-convict who helps Athiyan as an informant and in an undercover investigation. He did a fabulous job in his role, flirting with women, teasing the cops, and investigating one step ahead of the police. But in my personal opinion, Fahad is underused in this movie with his role just giving buildup to Athiyan and as a comedy relief as well as Manju Warrier, her role as the love interest of Athiyan for a song and an action scene. Dushara Vijayan and Rikita Singh had good roles and they did justice to them. Anirudh did well in the background score as it plays a mighty role in raising Rajinikanth's character appeal. In conclusion, I love this movie despite its logical mistakes, predictability etc. I watched this movie in a single stretch without any distractions to the end. I suggest this movie to everyone as people should learn that shoot-at-sight should not be appreciated; they should think about who got encountered, the reason for the encounter, and shoot-at-sight is not justice.
