A story of family, inheritance and madness. Some years ago, Jessica died in a fire at the mansion. Her daughter, Susan, has been driven mad by the incident and is an asylum/convent. Her father comes to pick her up, soon to be seen because he needs her to get some inheritance money left to her by Jessica. His new wife is clearly more interested by the money than anything else. And Jessica's brother would like his share too. The whole story is about intrigues to find a way to get Jessica's money, but also finding out what really happened to her, and where her diamond necklace disappeared. There's a parallel, and often superposition, of the events taking place in the present, and the night Jessica died. For several reasons. Well first, because similar things happen, but also because some want to play with Susan's mind, to either recover her memory or drive her mad. It's not perfect, but it works. The lawyer at the beginning is the best character though. Great performance. There's a bit of a creepy thing though. The half obsessional way of Susan wanting to be pretty so that Daddy will love her, is a bit deranging, but fits the story. However, when you consider Susan is supposed to be a child, but is played by an almost adult actress. That happens to be the director's daughter. And is herself called Susan. That gets a lot creepier.
