"The Client" is an enjoyable and well executed thriller overall. While the directing, script and overall product are far from amazing and sometimes quite bland, the Oscar level performances compensate for the easily over-seeable flaws.
Decent thriller. Brad Renfro plays it a little too grown up, but it's the relationship between him and Sarandon that is affecting. That's probably the most stand out thing of the film.
"A woman lawyer. Oh, great." Oh, would you look at that? Apparently, they make bite-sized misogynists too. Reggie is a better person than I am, because with the way this POS kid acted? I would've left him to fend for himself. Add to that his dumbass mother, who took her frustrations out on the only person trying to help them. Mark was disrespectful to Reggie THE WHOLE TIME, even when he got caught lying! He made Reggie look like a fool in front of everyone, leaving her blindsided by evidence after evidence that told the true account of the events leading to Romey's suicide. FUCK. THIS. KID. I've had enough of seeing grown women capitulate to punk-ass boys in media. Reggie had to BEG Mark to listen just so he wouldn't get himself killed?! You've got to be kidding me. I already wanted Mark to die long before that! Then there was this sudden tonal shift in Mark's demeanor toward Reggie at the end, as if the way he treated her for the most part was all rainbows and sunshine... Yeah, that's not how this works 🙄 With the exception of Reggie Love, I hated everyone in this film.
7.5 ⭐ for saying it’s a film my dad recommended me, it’s actually pretty good
