This is one of the most lesbian coded films I've ever seen to the point that I feel cheated they didn't outright say it. Gorgeous film, lovely pace that strikes how it feels to be young and how performing in a room of 30 people is like the biggest achievement ever by that point. This is also two clearly queer ladies struggling with being in a catholic boarding school finding love in each other. The colors metaphor feels perfect for this and the fact that it's dropped for a much less engaging and honestly heatless telling parent/guardian music is my passion storyline is disappointing enough that I wanna drop half a star. But I won't cause I loved watching this, the ending got me, the color palette was lovely and all the girlies in the theatre loved the clearly queer coded comedic moments where Higurashi was going gaga just thinking about Kimu. Easy recommendation god damn.
_Watched English dub_ After the credits rolled, I so greatly desired to be transported back into this serene and cozy world I'd just left. This coming-of-age movie is so earnest, and I love each character. I love Kimi's journey in accepting the choices she made. I love Rui's genuine excitement and joy he finds in his new friends, and the courage he gains from them. And of course, I love Totsuko for being a pure cinnamon roll whose bubbly personality is infectious, but I also love her being able to finally express herself without worry of being called weird for it. If you've watched any band anime before, this isn't your typical band anime. It's light, refreshing, and a bit flowy, and I loved seeing each character progress. Plus, the performance at the end was stunning.
Good songs. Watch post credit scene.
