What if "Groundhog Day" were a late-80s German gangster thriller with a pumping techno soundtrack, a nerve-shredding adrenaline-fuelled premise and a few surprises thrown in? That's "Lola Rennt" for you! :)
A movie that works with butterfly effect better than The Butterfly Effect and with less than 15% of budget. You add that with a good action, a good story and you will have Run Lola Run.
One of the few good German movies w/o Nazis or Communists. The fact that is has this low budget, is shot in a still very dilipidated and pretty much non-international Berlin with now extinct quirky Berlin citizens, and does not feature famous Hollywood actors with immaculate but rather unnatural beauty is an asset rather than a limitation. Composition is exciting. An eclectic mix of different movie styles. EDM music used correctly (reminds me of Trainspotting btw). The story is simple and yet exciting. If you feel the need (I don't), you can even philosophize about the witty idea behind the story. Though the ubiquitous availability of Ubers and cell phones would have made this story impossible today, the movie has aged very well. Lola btw is gorgeous. PS: yes, you saw this right, that's a Wuppertaler SV jersey.
I’m pretty sure I’m in the minority on this one but this film was only OK for me. The positives were the fast pace, an interesting take on the butterfly effect, and good visuals. The negatives for me was the initial problem/who accidentally leaves 100k behind, and character choice’s thereafter left me a bit disconnected from the viewing.
This is absolutely unique movie with great atmosphere and sountrack that collides perfectly with streets of Berlin. Lola rennt is great in its approach to every aspect of the movie. The editing is precious and I love how it captures the feeling of the city. Also the first repetitive movie I don’t hate but actually love. Groundhog day is a nightmare for me. I hate these things but Lola here did great job! Also it’s all about butterfly efect but iˇfor me personally it’s a little bit better that the movie “Butterfly effect” since it’s less depressing and overall somehow more captivating.
