I was kind of skeptical when I had seen they remade this and sure enough there was good reason for skepticism. I absolutely loved the original since I was a kid. I don’t normally have any issues with movies being remade. I always say do your own thing and make it even better. That didn’t happen here at all. Every single character was a a huge step down from the original. The supporting characters in particular were very underdeveloped. The romance felt so bland and forced. The story lacked focus and felt uninspired. This wasn’t all that entertaining either and had a lot of plot holes. The hockey scenes were easily the best part of this movie. They tried to convey a clear message about anger and family but it doesn’t deliver it all that well. There’s one excellent speech near the end of the movie that packs a punch but outside of that it felt pretty average. At the end of the day this just didn’t need to be remade at all and will most likely be very unsuccessful. * Double Feature at AMC Crestwood 18
