The awfulness of this movie is almost indescribable. It made my brain physically hurt, which is quite an accomplishment without nerve-endings. The characters are vapid and two-dimensional, with the most basic motivations that aren't even remotely believable, with horrid SFX and a completely unnecessary explosion. "Terrible" doesn't even begin to cut it.
Pros: Some nice shots of, I assume, Bucharest, with nice color grading. Some fitting pieces of score music. Cons: The writing, the characters, the generic Hallmark jukebox score songs clumsily edited in. The EDITING. I don't doubt that there was a version of this that was kind sort of worth finishing, while still kind of being forgettable, and amateurishly written, but the editing absolutely kills it. And it's a pity, because I cared enough about Hugh Dancy and Agnes Bruckners' characters that I may have actually made it past the 3/4 way point, but Dancy's character had to tell her that she should have tried harder to avoid him if she ,,had really cared about me at all!" Bitch, please.
I had first watched this as a teen when I read the book and was in love with it for some reason. But upon a rewatch, I don't know what I was thinking. The story is there but is half assed. Some shots are really beautiful. But that is about all that is good with this.
The supernatural thriller _Blood and Chocolate_ is an intriguing and intense dark romance. The story follows a mysterious young woman from a noble werewolf bloodline who falls for a human, but their lives become endangered when her family discovers their affair. Agnes Bruckner and Hugh Dancy lead the cast and give solid performances. And, the writing does a job good at creating a fascinating werewolf mythology. The special effects also create an interesting transformation effect for the wolves that accentuates their spiritual and mystical nature. A compelling and stylistic film, _Blood and Chocolate_ delivers romance and adventure.
