When I first heard about this movie, I expected it to be corny and juvenile, but it turned out to be the complete opposite. The storytelling is heartfelt and surprisingly mature, while still being easy for kids to understand. At its core, it’s a true family film — the kind that doesn’t get made nearly as often anymore. In many ways, it reminded me of the classic family movie Babe, and the CGI work and voice acting for the animals was excellent. Nicholas Braun brings a lot of comedic charm to his role as the bumbling local policeman, and the humor throughout the film was a really pleasant surprise. You can also tell the entire cast, including Hugh Jackman, genuinely cared about the story and gave it their full effort, which makes the emotional moments feel sincere instead of forced or overly cheesy. That sincerity allows the film’s heavier themes — dealing with negative emotions, memories, and grief — to resonate in a meaningful way. Give this movie a chance, and there’s a very good chance you’ll laugh, cry, or maybe even do both.
justice … just us… why did i comment this?
I was looking for a fun time and oh boy I had one. It’s a perfect mix between heartfelt, comedy and murder mystery. There is also sheep so 8/10
When a good shepherd (Ewe Jackman) gathers his last wool, his fleecy flock almost undergoes voluntary lambnesia to overcome their grief. But after chewing over some clues, these ruminants suspect foul play if ahoof. That's when bellwether Lily activates her sheep sleuthing skills to help the local cop to stop making sheep eyes at a pretty suspect and overcome his herd mentality to solve this wild and wooly yet cosy ewedunit. Ewe better respect the shear genius of these sheep or ewe don't know mutton! 🐑
# Themes and Symbolism - Metaphorical Layers - Wool as a commodity of identity - The Fence as a barrier to consciousness - Predatory behavior hidden behind pastoral idealism - Philosophical Inquiry - Existentialism within a deterministic society - The ethics of forgetting vs. the burden of truth # Cinematography and Sound - Visual Style - Desaturated, high-contrast monochrome palettes - Low-angle shots to emphasize the weight of institutional control - Audio Design - Minimalist, dissonant brass score - Diegetic ambient sounds: constant, unsettling grazing noises # Narrative Structure - Plot Mechanics - Noir-inspired procedural structure - Non-linear flashbacks representing recovered memories - Climactic confrontation at the Great Shearing Mill - Core Conflicts - Individual autonomy vs. Herd mentality - The illusion of security provided by the 'Shepherd' authority # Character Analysis - Barnaby (The Lead) - Motivated by a fragmented past - Archetype: The cynical but moral detective - Evolution: From passive observer to revolutionary - Pip (The Sidekick) - Intellectual counterpoint to Barnaby - Symbol of analytical logic and skepticism # Summary Insights - The movie subverts the fable genre, transforming a children's book aesthetic into a bleak, sociopolitical critique of surveillance states. - The act of 'shearing' acts as a visual shorthand for the gaslighting of a population, forcing the audience to reflect on modern digital erasure and media manipulation. - The film effectively uses the 'detective noir' genre tropes to expose the absurdity of an existence based on blind compliance. - The recurring motif of the 'unseen Shepherd' serves as a manifestation of divine or state-level gaslighting, never fully revealed, highlighting the power of unseen authority. - By utilizing anthropomorphism, the film allows for an objective distance that makes the exploration of existential dread more palatable and poignant.
