After the emotion and insanity of the Sabaody Archipeligo arc, Amazon Lily is intensely disappointing. It wasn't bad, and definitely picked up the pace toward the end with Luffy befriending Hancock and learning about Ace's situation, but other than that, it felt like One Piece releasing all the built up anime shit that it had inside. To be clear, I'm okay with sexual jokes, but I feel like this arc was just too much fanservice, with a pitiful filler arc to close it out that had the worst animation and really hurtful stereotypes of queer people. Again, didn't hate it, but outside of some of the scenes toward the end, it really felt like the worst parts of anime in one pile.
Interesting premise but this arc was very transitory. It introduces some good stuff and characters but is overall very short and doesn't stick out much in your mind once its finished. Boa is also a little creepy for
obsessing over luffy who is 12 years younger than her and still a child
Definitely a major drop-off from Sabaody, but it wasn't as bad as maybe I was expecting. The Kuja pirates are a very sigh-worthy concept, but I feel like it could've been handled worse, as it has been with plenty of other anime. Boa Hancock is a great addition, even if she becomes a little obsessive towards the end. The only major drawbacks to the arc are the slowing of the pace from last arc, the over-sexualization, which isn't too gross, and there's one weird sequence in Sanji's story that left a bad taste in my mouth wrt queer people. Overall it's a solid arc, among the worst in the series yet but the standard is very high.
I believe this Arc should start on ~Ep 407
