February 1941. Still trying to get closer to the war effort, Foyle asks his well-connected brother-in-law to help him get a job with a naval command center. Meanwhile, a local murder investigation puts him in a dangerous bind between rival spy agencies.

February 1941. Foyle investigates strange happenings at a manor house that has been converted into a burn unit for RAF pilots. The brilliant but unconventional surgeon who heads the unit has drawn the ire of his military superiors for disregarding regulations that conflict with patient welfare.

April 1941. Foyle and Milner capture two German soldiers who survived the crash landing of their plane in the Hastings countryside. Nearby, two nights later, a farmer is discovered shot dead in his armchair. Two Land Army girls working on the farm come under suspicion.

June 1941. In a month that begins with the fall of Crete and ends with the German invasion of the Soviet Union, Foyle and Milner crack down on an organized crime racket operating in a local shipyard. Foyle is also ordered to keep an eye on a known communist agitator visiting Hastings with his fiancé.
