For me the last season was the weakest one of the series. While I was thrilled by the one episode in season 4 which showed the Observers taking over the control, I think dedicating a whole season to the idea was simply too much. Mainly this is because there are nearly no fringe events occurring in this fifth season, which Fringe turns into an action / crime show ditching most of the (pseudo) scientific aspects that made the show so great in the previous seasons. I would not recommend to skip it altogether but I'm still quite disappointed by it!
