This episode had so much going on, that it felt like 2 episodes in a good way. This has the feeling of the early seasons, I really enjoyed this one.
You know for a show that's very much about showing the LAPD (again I laugh at this because.... come on really? the LAPD of all beats?) as the most by the book "best of the best of the best SIR". These cops really really really really hate doing anything that's not killing bad guys. They hate protecting they hate serving. The Rookie is THE procedural to watch if you want to see real policing issues name-checked and then just ... there's no word really for less than forgotten. Nyla and Angela moan and complain about having to go through the neighborhood. How the uniform itches. Which is hilarious contrast to Tim who literally treats being a beat cop like it's the military complete with drill sergeants yelling at you for no reason. "How dare you walk in this city ROOK!!". This city could kill you at any moment so you can't even literally walk the street. Now get out there and literally walk the street. Like guys what are we doing here? Then there's the Nolan letting Celina off the leash and half the people tell him to mess with her. Half tell them to not mess with her. No one ever discusses why messing with someone does anything other than gaslight them and train them not to be able to trust anything. Which I'm sure is going to yield useful results. In the field everyone is by the book by hook or by crook. Unless a man shoots his granddaughter. Then it's "I don't think he needs to see the back of a shop". Oh suddenly compassion factors? Because there's been a lot of compassionate scenes where everyone goes "Sorry but the rules say no". heck arguably this happens in this very episode.
Nolan had to use his golden ticket to be TO. Lucy was made one just cause of staff shortages. Golden tickets don't feel golden anymore.
Community bla-bla, undermine my authority bla-bla, man who looks more like you bla-bla. Hate to see what a joke this show became. Especially comparing to Castle which I'm currently watching.
