Season 1
Albuquerque author Carol Sturka is one of only 13 people in the world immune to the effects of the "Joining", an event in which an extraterrestrial virus transformed the rest of humanity into a peaceful and content hive mind known as the "Others". The hive mind happily accommodates the wishes of those who remain unaffected, but admits that it will ultimately seek to assimilate them when it learns how to do so. Carol is adamantly against their efforts as she searches for a way to reverse the Joining.

An astronomer's discovery turns the planet upside down. Carol Sturka, a curmudgeonly novelist, is terrified by this strange new world.

A curiously familiar face introduces Carol to the bizarre new normal. A gathering in Europe brings strangers together...and causes friction.

Pluribus looks like a hidden mix between the novel I am Legend and a subtle critique to generative GPT AI. It's interesting to watch. The AI resemblance is not very explicit but I realized (spoilers until S1E03) [spoiler] the hivemind (HM) is very good at storing and remembering data but very bad at making complex tasks and give reasoning. You can easily manipulate them. The main existence is an incoherence, since it believes the end doesn't justify the means but it's okay at obliterating one billion humans calling it "imperative biology" but literally who wanted to be assimilated. I love that this is adressed on this series. [/spoiler] Expect a low pacing series though, that's kinda the style of the director. Very low pacing in some moments, but sometimes good meals are done with slow cooking. Another criticism I can't comprehend so far is that Carol is not likeable enough. Like, when a main character should be likeable?. I love that the main character is annoying and depressed, that's what it makes human.
Oh great, another show everyone’s raving about. I’ll keep watching, though, because apparently I’m missing something incredibly obvious.
Magnificent, looks like it going to be one of the best series.

Pluribus opens with a strong concept and an unsettling atmosphere, raising big questions about collective consciousness and control. Unfortunately, many of its major reveals arrive in an oddly softened, over-explained way, draining what should have been powerful twists of their impact. The biggest problem is Carol. She positions herself as anti-Hive and claims she wants to “save the world,” yet she fully exploits the system she condemns. Free transportation, unrestricted access to resources, food, protection and infrastructure — all provided by the Hive she rejects. This constant contradiction makes her feel hypocritical rather than principled, benefiting from the system while attacking it. Season 1 shows ambition but lacks commitment. It hints at something bold, then repeatedly plays it safe, leaving a promising idea short of its potential.
