for the first time ever i left the movie theater in the middle of the movie because i was so utterly bored, i love sophie thatcher but nope
I didn’t hate this, but honestly I didn’t really like it either. Visually, it looks incredible, and there are a lot of interesting ideas involving fathers, daughters, trauma, performance, and violence, but the movie is so disconnected and confusing that I never really cared about any of it. I enjoyed The Neon Demon more, and I was conflicted about that movie too(had to watch that movie 2 or 3 times). At least that had a clearer point about beauty, jealousy, and an industry consuming young women. This felt like a father-daughter drama, slasher, sci-fi movie, Hollywood satire, and perfume commercial all fighting for control at the same time Sophie Thatcher was good, and I respect Nicolas Winding Refn for making something this weird, but style can only carry a movie so far. Beautiful to look at, occasionally disturbing, but in my opinion this felt emotionally empty and more confusing than compelling. That’s why I give Her Private Hell a 4.5/10 it’s not the worse movie of the year for me (that goes to Primate) but it’s one that I had high expectations for and was disappointed.
For me personally it was boring
