I don't think the show ever quite followed through on anything with the Jessica Russo character (the rumblings of bad cop-pery at the tail end of last season never came to fruition in any meaningful way), and in the end, her _Rookie_ days seem to be petering out in a very cliched, recurring-girlfriend-arc kind of way. None of that was on Sarah Shahi, who, as per usual, did her best with anything the show threw at her, whether that was a little or a lot. However much Russo's story this episode frustrated me, it's hard to deny what Shahi did in her (apparent) sendoff. Her last two scenes in particular, in the hospital and in Nolan's house, were beautiful and heartbreaking, with a depth of feeling to her performance that pretty much deflated my annoyance. Sad to see her go, hope to see her land somewhere more mindful of her skill.

Dammit, Grace. Your presence in the show has become
the ultimate reason for John and Jessica breaking up.

You and John are probably going to hook up
in the next episode or so now. That's unfortunate. But there always has to be
relationship drama and love-triangles, blah, blah, blah.
I think this is a solid episode of The Rookie. We get a lot of new interactions. There's solid policework and a little surprise. Both policewise and personalwise.
This does mean the end of Sarah Shahi whom I loved. Loved her since Life. I like her better than Ali Larter who is clearly his next romantic interest. I always find the kids argument on TV to be a bit uninteresting. Someone wants kids and then someone doesn't and that's the end of the relationship. There's never any give and take or discussion. Then again at least it wasn't the Louis Litt - Sheila Sazs relationship where she just flips to have kids for him.
**ACAB** Ok so in the ACAB corner I think I'll highlight all the ways the show tries to make cops look better than they are. This is not normally a reflection on the show or it's quality. Ehh nothing really interesting this episode

Wow guess they did not want to go the love triangle route and removed Jess from the equation before they develop Nolan and Grace further. Jess was an awesome character though and hope she stays as a recurring character.
